I have tried out a used Strat at my local store. The previous owner has done some sort of a modification on it. On the lowest tone control there is a switch and i can pull or lift up the volume control and the switch is engage. When i tried to use this tone control ordinary, It seemed like a weak second volume control. Does any one know what type of modification this is and the purpose with it?

It might be for switching the neck pickup on while having the ability to raise and lower just the neck pickup's volume where it will not turn off the entire circuit's volume.
