hey guys,

right now i'm playing an OLP Petrucci, which doesn't suit my taste and sounds way too muddy... I've tried my buddies telecaster through a POD Studio, comparing it with mine a little, and it sounded a heck of a lot better. So I'm wondering, will a MIM stratocaster (either single or hss, havent made up my mind yet-help?) sound decent through a roland cube 15? some say i should just get a tube amp instead, but i really despise the guitar and a tube amp would be too loud for my place...

sounds i'd want to achieve is basicly that bluesy, crunchy zz topish srvish sound... if i use overdrive on my current guitar, it'll sound worthless, it only sounds good using massive gain on the metal channel.

if you despise the guitar, by all means go over to a strat. i bought a new mim last december(hss), and i love it.

as far as the amp, i played thru a cube 30, and it wa a nice amp. there are some tube amps out there theat are not real loud, if that was your concern. since my amps are all solid state, i'll defer to others with more knowledge.

good luck with whatever way you choose.

I have tried Tele/Cube 15 combo last time about 4 years ago and as I remember the clean channel was decent (simulation of the roland jazz amp).
Tele sounded crap on other channels. Maybe they improved the software on the newer models. Maybe try to be patient and practice clean, do not add any stomp boxes on cube 15, back off the guitar volume and play with the guitar tone knob(s) to get a decent clean. Later on upgrade to the better amp and maybe a guitar/pickups if finances allow.

I guess what am I saying is if you are OK with a guitar upgrade amp first to tube amp if possible to get in the ballpark to the tones of the mentioned ones.
