Then perhaps that is what this is..I would still like a peek under the hood so to speak but either way, certainly this is a steal at 50 bucks?

I'm curious about under the hood too. Mine is dated from 1989.

It is a steal at $50!! I paid $500 for mine.

80's MIJ Strats are fabulous guitars.

Yeah I have heard. I have an 80s MIJ 62 reissue neck rosewood, bottom truss, single tree..well it really looks no different then a USA but I am going to nitro it. I found a matching body, also a 62 reissue MIJ, proper route, alder, nice blue color but I may strip that and nitro it as well.

The neck pocket stamping is ex62 something or other, I don't have it in front of me now, and the neck heel is S 62 T or something like that and the bottom of the neck is pencil dated 85.I also have a correct neck plate from the year which the serial number is engraved or I guess stamped is more correct like the vintage USA and CS reissue and breaks down as a reissue/MIJ..this may be the closet I get to a real 62 unless I hit lotto. Next I search for vintage tuners, bridge and other electronics.pick guard etc..also need a nut and it won't be plastic.

So far I am in the around $250.00...I hope to complete this for a max of $500.00....I figure pup will set me back 150 ish, which leaves me 100 bucks for a bridge and a few other odds and ends...I guess it depends on how lucky I get finding a good deal on these parts. If i hit $600 I won't be too disappointed..but the anticipation is killing me..the body is not here..was shipped out yesterday from the east coast.

I own:

1986 MIJ '68RI
1986 MIJ '72RI
1989 MIJ Standard

I'm hoping one day to find MIJ '54RI, '57RI and '62RI Strats.

Sweet collection. I have been following and researching the MIJ's and they do seem high quality and going up in value. There is someone on ebay from Australia who has been selling off some really nice MIJ bodies and necks. The prices are right, but the shipping is very high. I haven't purchased anything from him but have been watching.

I have found this page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.blackman4/index.htm to be extremely useful and quite accurate.
Aside from eBay I suggest you keep a look out on www.craigslist.org

Thanks for the info. Yeah I use CL too but the good MIJ's are hard to find actually, once in a while a sweet deal comes by and I grab it if I have the funds. If I had unlimited funds my room would be neck deep in Strats...a few teles and P-basses.

I am currently about knee deep..not enough!!! haha
