I received a set of Dunlop strap locks for X-Mas and tried them out... didn't care for them. Decided to replace them with the originals, but screws would not tighten all the way. Tried a small amount of Elmer's glue (easy to work with and clean up if needed) on the threads... no go. So I brought out the big guns and used some Loc-Tite gel form super glue. Seemed to work fine. Put the Strat back in it's case. The next night I took it out to check the screws. the top one's fine, but all around the bottom strap button and up towards the top the finish is marred. I tried buffing it out and only made it worse. I now have a small hairline crack in the finish. I know of a really good Fender service center nearby, but was wondering if this is something that they will be to touch up, or will the entire body have to be sprayed? Thanks!

Got a picture of the damage?

Did some of the super glue run out onto the finish?

If the hole was stripped, you should have tried the old glue-some-toothpicks-into-the-hole trick.

No pics. Apparently the felt washer must have absorbed some of the glue. Now that I think of it, I have heard that the vapors given off by super glue can damage some finishes when enclosed in a low O2 environment. In retrospect it was just a bad idea. I should have just left the Dunlop strap buttons on. The damage is relatively minor. I tried calling the service center earlier today, but they were closed. Live and learn... I guess. Thanks for the response though.

Take Care, CJ
