Can anyone tell me the purpose/function of the cap that is switched in on certain pickup combos when using the S1 switching system on my Strat??

Hi Jerry

Welcome to the forum! :D

The specials capacitor gets wired in parallel with either the bridge or neck pickup. This blocks some of the lower frequencies which is why positions 2 and 4 with the S-1 engaged sound brighter than position 1 and 5.
