Hello all,

I am hoping someone may be able to help with a few questions I have.

I have a 1991 American made strat that I was thinking about selling. Currently it has two original pickups and one unknown one on the bridge. I have looked all over it but there is nothing to identify it with other than a sticker on the underside simply labelled 'BC'.
Ive done a bit of research and to give you an idea it looks a bit like a '2 blade Kent armstrong Motherbucker pickup'

Now, it will cost £65 to get a fender pickup fitted, but I have know idea if doing this will up its market value by that much? Any ideas?

Also I wondered if any one had any rough ideas of its worth? I have looked on Ebay and they seem to all be around £700/£800 mark, is this a fair price to ask?

If anyone could offer any ideas on this it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

I don't really know the conversion rate to US dollars but the average price for a 91 USA would be between $800.00 low to $1000.00 high..a bit more for an ash body.

The BC on the pickup could be a dimarzio BC which I believe is what was used on the "Billy Corgan" signature series Highway ones. I think it is a double blade style if i am correct? otherwise it could be anything, perhaps you can post a pic?

As far as it being worth it to put an original back in..hard to say ...depends on if the buyer prefers it all original (which never hurts resale value, especially on older models).

The best scenario when selling a guitar with a pup swap is to include the original in the sale. In this case since a 91 is not really considered anything too rare or vintage...it may not bring anymore money having an original reinstalled..I would just sell it as is...and promote the pickup as an improvement...realistically should not hurt the resale. Now if this was a 50's, 60's or 70's, or some kind of rare special edition, signature or reissue, that is another story.

The value of anything is what the highest price someone is willin' to pay for it, IMO.

Good luck!

Miami Mike is 100% correct. However it is not bad to have a rough idea what similar guitars are selling for if you are considering selling yours.

You have to be careful judging by ebay however, unless you watch the auctions and see what it has actually sold for. Many of these guys ask jacked up BIN prices and post it for 30 days and keep re-listing hoping for a sucker...or they could shill an auction. I notice some of the real big power sellers that have a lot of items....will list a few very high BIN..and put the same guitar or part for auction or at a slightly lower BIN..that is a ploy in my opinion and may not reflect the actual market value. Just a tactic used to artificially inflate values.
