I would check the serial number first. The Fender website has a list so that you can see for sure when and where it was built. You know, based on whether it was made in Japan can make a big difference. I wouldn't recommend a purchase until you do this bit of homework though.

Japan Strats are still valuable though,(if in good shape) I'd guess in the $400-$700 range.
American Strats, range from about $600-$1000 from my understanding.

Also be aware of scammers who tamper with guitars,to make an MIJ look like an MIA model.

You might also ask the seller to have it appraised by a reputable dealer. There are so many variables, I mean the seller may be honest yet not know what he has.

Anyway, you're on the right track, there is alot of knowledge in this forum!

:)

Thank you my friend. I'll do as you suggest. It's a friend who is left handed and can't use it. He's done the work of looking up serial #'s and so forth. Says in lands in that 86/87 manufacturing period. Is American and wants around $600-650 for it. I just wanted to make sure the price was fair.

Thanks again

You mean your actually friends with another left handed player?

Please if your totally new to guitar don't buy a left handed one EVEN if your left handed.

It will haunt you the rest of your musical career.
Every time you read tab or watch someone play you will need to flip it in your mind. All books are written for right handers.

When you hang out with guitar friends they will never want to try yours out and you can never try there's out.

There will only ever be like 3 guitars in the music store to play on.

If you want to play lead guitar you have a running advantage as a left handed being that your have slight higher individual finger independence.

Don't do it....

Reading Tab wouldn't be any different though would it? If you imagine tab as looking down at your guitar and strings the bottom line on tab will represent the 6th string (Thickest), and the numbers will still represent the fret.
