Price.

A new players deluxe retails around $900.00 on the high side...an American standard retails for around 13 hundred-$1400.00 on the high side. If you are considering either, go to a store and try out both. Bear in mind, sometimes the floor models are not set up..or have been considerably abused..however it is a starting point.

What I notice, is they do not state the body material on the deluxe..but I assume it is alder. The Standard lists as ash..my personal fav

If you are talking about the "Deluxe Players Strat", I have a small review on my site. It is the first review on the site, with a picture on the second page (click "Strat Photos" at the top of the page on the site).I think that the Deluxe Players Strat is a nice guitar, vintage-noiseless pickups are nice, and it does have a vintage look and tone. I have never owned a Highway one, and I've only played a few at GC some years ago. I wanted a Highway One when they first came out, but then they changed to the large headstock which I didn't like as much. But I do like the some of the specs better on the Highway One, like the 9.5 inch radius, and grease-bucket tone circuit. The push-button on the Deluxe Players Strat is neat, it sounds like a Tele in pos 5 of the pickup selector switch with the button pushed in.

Just buy them both! If you want to see my review of the Deluxe Players Strat, just click the "www" button at the bottom of my post.

That is a "Classic Series 70s" Strat, Natural finish Ash body, 2004 model. There is a review of it on the first page of the site, just scroll down to the second review. There is a picture of it in front of a BJr on the second page of the site. That guitar is tuned down to E flat, with 11s, and it sounds pretty darned good setup that way. The bridge is locked down of course, I've done all of my strats like that, sounds better, stays in tune better. When I want to whammy-out, i pick up the Kramer with the Floyd Rose trem and locking nut. The Kramer doesn't go out of tune no matter how hard you whammy! :D

Kind of like chosing a woman? haha

Anyhow, part of the thrill is the hunt. I was a STUPID head and sold the best sounding and playing Strat on earth (IMO)...a real early 70's natural finish ash body..maple fret, hardtail. The tone was to die for..well strat heaven to me. I was young and maybe not dumber then I am now..but certainly not savvy on future value of instruments.

Now I know I can not afford another original at this time so I am attempting to build something close using a Japan 62 reissue body, Japan 62 reissue neck, vintage tuners and real steel block bridge, ..and whatever pickups I have not decided yet. I only have the neck so far...and the body on the way.

total investment so far...around 250 dollars. I am considering posting this build. Also the 2002 USA standard, and the next project on deck...a "relic" that actually looks like an authentic vintage 50's or 60's.

I am not building the relic for any reason....other then to prove to MYSELF whether of not i can pull it off. If it fails...then it will be parted out. if it succeeds, I can have a close enough facsimile of my dream guitar, but save 30 grand or so.
