Don't expect me to be the voice of reason...The specs on that guitar actually justify the cost..to a point.

You could probably come very close to the feel and sound building one yourself using similar spec parts and a pro setup for 1/3 to 1/2 that price. That said, would it be exactly the same? Are any two strats ever the same?

Also if you build a frankenstrat it may not ever return investment or increase in value like a CS..but, if you just want it to keep forever and enjoy..then resale value is not in the equation.

Since I do not have any kids I don't have a place to advise whether that ax is more important then a college fund. I think it is though

Ok lets put some sense in it.

Got the cash? buy it now.

I´ve never been able to save for a stratocaster in my life. Got depreesed for it at some moments.

When I was a kid my father got me a red mexican squier, but i was not much into it, then ive sold it for drugs.

About 15 years later, my mother got me this preset, the 2009 Highway One Stratocaster, now I cannot have inspiration for work anymore, my wife only complains that I dont care about her only about that damn guitar.

Yes man I´m in love by my modest stratocaster. And I tell you if I got the cash I would buy a Clapton CS for 3500 bucks. But I know I´m poor and I love my highway one as she is.

This is a lifetime item my friend, I´m sure you take it for the rest of your life as I´ll take mine. I cannot see myself apart from her(strat).

Dont you dare care about what others might think, this is your dream not theirs. Go for it or regret it painfully the rest of your miserable life.

oh you know the deal dont you rebel?
i dont care how loving and giving the wife maybe. they still have a sack of
"killjoy stakes" and will use them at randum for no other reason sometimes than to show you that you cant have every thing you want
no matter how easy you can afford it or how flexable the situation may be.
they have these two built in meters.
1 is time and the other is emotion. so, your only allowed to be so happy for so long before they pull out the needle and pop your ballon.

Way Cool I'd have to agree. I am not married anymore either, been divorced around 7 years. I remember some of the good times, but I also remember she had some kind of unwritten rule.."no fun for extended periods".

to hell with the wifes.

the only true love someone/something is going to give you is from a stratocaster.
the more you play the more she´ll love and care about you and vice versa.

yesterday i was messing up with the tremolo, and ive never remembered having so much care messing inside my wife as i was having messing inside my strat

wife is for planning accounts and daily sex.
strat is for care, play and love inconditionaly.

and in the end when gets old, just change the strings on the strat, besides that youll have to change the whole wife thing for a 20yr old or so.

Hi bruno690: I simply don't see the problem. Sell the kid; buy the guitar.

How much is a teenager these days? You'll probably come out ahead. 8)

Cheers - C

Who really wants a teenager these days.
I think to get rid of a teen you actually need to pay.

Ah - you may have a point. I certainly don't want one!

Perhaps someone would buy yours to put away for the future as an investment...?

Anyway. You wanted someone to talk sense to you. Do you feel we've helped with that?

Cheers - C

The questions to ask yourself are:

How safe is my job.
How safe is my wifes job.
How much total debt do I have now. Am I behind paying.....
Are my credit cards payed off.......
Is my retirement fund payed up...
Are my autos in shape or can I get to work reliably.
How many other guitars do I have. Can I ever stop wanting more, yes or no, is this just one more "must have" until the next "must have"
Do you play for a living, make money at it.... will the guitar pay for itself!!!
Is your playing really going to improve that much...that much?

As much as I love these Stratocaster guitars our first responsibility is to the wives we promise to take care of and the children we create. We are not to be doormats or wimps yet responsible men.

After you weight everything in your heart I hope you can have your baby. But be honest with yourself, it's a necessary practice.

I am as bad as anyone about Strat-o-lust.

Sincerely
OL
