I have a fender startacaster with the serial number of 665461 which is on the silver plate with the big f on it at the back on the neck.
I think it is a 1975/6 USA model.
How can I confirm this?

As far as I know, no 70's strats had the serial number stamped on the neck plate. What is the serial number on the front of the headstock?

The best way to confirm is by looking at the markings on the base of the neck and on the body.

You can confirm the year of construction by checking the codes on the back of the pots, on the heel of the neck, and on the back of the pickups.

Let us know what numbers you find.

The serial number didn't go onto the headstock until later in 1976.

My guess is that yours is a 1975.

My other guitar is a Strat.

I also have a '76 serial number 713xxx stamped onto the three bolt neck plate. As mentioned earlier, get all the codes you can and get back to us. I may want to buy that off of you...
