Well if the serial starts with Z2 it would be a 2002 more than likely.

Yeah i was just wondering cause of that paint. Its a see thru blonde that has a thin amount of gloss.

Most likely an early Highway 1 that a previous owner polished up. They have always had that thin nitro finish that dings up easily, and you could with patience polish them up to a pretty decent gloss. The early ones had the small headstock.

Would really need close ups of the front and back of the headstock, and the body under the pick guard to accurately date an authenticate it..

But judging by what I have to work with (finish, serial number and bridge), I also concur that it seems to be a well beat up 2002 USA highway one.

Oh and to note..the type of finish is not actually "Nitroglycerin", as I believe that is a high explosive. The type of lacquer is called nitrocellulose or has we strat fanatics refer to it "nitro"... to be more accurate.

Also should add...the Highway Ones as far as I know, still use a "thin skin" nitro finish. However that particular color may be discontinued. It is a transparent color apparently..I had a strange rare mid 90's P bass "cow poke" which had a J type neck, PJ active electronics...was just one of those strange Fender quasi 54 reissue type things..but if the pics are accurate...it was the same color...I forgot the exact name but it was yellowish and had redish/pinkish hues and you could see the wood grain through the finish.

This must be the rare Fender StratoBlaster guitar from 2002. The highy unstable combustable and dangerous Nitroglycerin finish was discontinued after 2002 because of the explosions that occured on the surface of the body of the guitar, as evident by the pictures posted above. Any quick movement or Pete Townshend windmill strumming would cause the finish to would go up in flames. And forget about smoking while playing! Ka-Boom!

Actually, I agree with the others that it's a 2002 Highway 1. The serial number gave away the year. See here: http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php
Your Highway 1 has an acrylic lacquer finish. The Highway 1's got the nitro(cellulose) finish around 2006. Yours looks like a real road warrior. Rock on!

Yeah I would be very careful not to pull a "Hendrix" on this ax if it has a nitroglycerin finish..haha

But kidding aside it was eating at me to think of the name of that color. I had to search for a post back in 2008 when I left the specs for the bass. Fender was kind enough to get back to me in record time with the specs..no one really new much about it and I had posted the specs here.

The color is called (507) Vintage Blonde, can't be 100% sure if that is the color on your Strat, but it was on my bass and looks very similar. And as far as I can find, the color is discontinued although they have a similar color called honey blonde, not sure if it is transparent though like the vintage blonde.

How is it wrong? I have a 2002 USA Standard and it has the 2 post style. The highway 1's had the vintage style..totally correct I would think.

Sure I agree we would need more detailed pics to authenticate it with %100 accuracy..but judging by the finish, bridge and serial number it would seem to be a 2002 USA Highway 1. Even the 2 digit number hand written in marker in the trem spring cavity is correct.

Actually..here is the bridge design from Fender themselves..for a Highway 1™ Stratocaster® 011-1100/02 08/13/02

The link is from Fender Support for the Pick guard assembly, and if you scroll down you can see the bridge assembly..seems identical to the picture of the bridge on the Strat posted on this thread.

It's Honey Blonde. It used to be one of the color choices for Highway 1's.

Oh. I thought the nitroglycerin would help if you had a heart attack while playing it.
