I recently bought texas specials and they are great pickups, but the G string is very loud. Is it possible that i could file down the pole peice under the g string? I was thinking if i file it down maybe 1 or 2 mm then it would make for a more balance pickup. Is it possible to do that? has anyone tried it before? Any thoughts would be welcomed.

The heat from the filing or grinding friction on the polepiece will cause it to lose magnetism to whatever degree, maybe all. Additionally, the heat and pressure exerted on the polepiece/magnet will simultaneously be exerted on the coil which in turn will cause a thermal breakdown of the the coil which will facilitate shorting and/or breaking of the coil.

Realistically, unless you change to a wound G string, you are unfortunately stuck with that loud G string.

I agree, Do Not file the polepieces. Those are vintage style pickups and they sound good but there are drawbacks. You gotta live with them or Raise your G string as much as you can live with

The pole peices move all you have to do is push them.

And guaranteed, you will destroy the coil which is wrapped and solidified directly around them.

Do NOT push the polepieces!!!

I did that to one of mine and everything is ok... sound wise anyways. But I had no idea it might have damaged the pickup.
