ok so here's the deal... i'm trying to fix up this old standard strat hss and i have decided to go with the following for pickups a seymour duncan jb in the bridge and i am thinking of using an ssl-2 in the neck with its reverse polarity version in the middle... i'm thinking of putting a push pull coil tap on the volume to tap the jb ...

i know nothing about guitar electronics... the only refrences i have are the wiring diagrams for the strat hss and my custom wiring diagram that i found in seymourduncan.com so i'm here to know if i should use these as a refrence or if i should change the pots and capacitors to other values...

p.s. tell me what you think of my pickups...

If you can follow the wiring diagrams and have soldering skills, it shouldn't be too difficult. It looks like Seymour Duncan provides a wiring diagram for whatever setup that you want. From what you've posted, this one looks like what you want.

It would be the same, or similar, wiring diagram for a larger sized hum-bucker too. Just select the option that you have on the Seymour Duncan website. Obviously you need to change the standard volume pot to a push/pull pot for the coil-splitting, but the other pots look like the same value and would not have to be changed.

If you change the pots to a different value, typically 500K ohms, it will give you a wider range of adjustment for the tone and won't get any warmer when turned down, but allows you to get the tone somewhat brighter when you turn the pot up. Changing the 0.022uF cap to a higher value 0.047uF will give you a warmer tone, and changing to a smaller 0.010uF will give you a brighter tone. The tone capacitor value will have little to no effect on the sound when the tone pot is in turned all the way up. The combination of the two could make your tone much different than before, but that's up to you. It can be easily undone, so experiment to see what tones you like.

You can also get pots with an "indent position", so when at full adjustment of the tone pot, the tone pot is completely out of the circuit, leaving the pickup "wide-open". The American Standard has this on one of the tone controls.
