Is there a wood block wedged behind the trem block? In case you're not sure where that is, it's under that rectangle plate with 6 screws on the backside of the body.

Here's a picture of mine. This is the only thing I can think of that would prevent trem arm movement. It may not look exactly like this, but it's the unpainted wood block screwed into the body.

here's something that happened to me- it may or may not help.

i went from 9 gauge to 10 gauge strings. went i brought it into tune, the whammy would not work. when i loosened the strings, the whammy would work.

i went back to 9's, and all is well. i may also have wound the strings too tight

see if the above works for you- good luck

Dang, I didn't think of that. But that sounds like a possible cause, too.

Even with heavier strings, the trem arm should still depress under modest pressure. If it won't move at all, then it's blocked.

How many big springs are in the unit? 3 or 5?

With all due respect, if this is confusing to you I would ask the shop where you bought the guitar to set it up for you.

I agree with this.

Do you have a friend who has more experience with Strats? Show it to him.

what strat is it,
1. have you removed the back plate to take a peek. some places will block the trem temp so you wont use it.
2. is it ej strat, eric clapton strat, or a squier bullet?
some of those are blocked, for "X" reasons.

why dont you remove the back plate, take a couple of photos, and post them, that might be a little helpful.
dont worry man, im sure we can sort it out.

looks like the bridge is totally flushed up against the body.
theyre isnt blocking underneath, im really not sure, bu tmaybe the 6 screws may be on too tight.

Something that you might try is to loosen all six of the bridge screws under the strings one full turn each. You may have to tune down to be able to move the strings aside to get to the screws. Then loosen the two screws on the trem spring claw in the back about four or five turns. This will make sure that those two things are not binding the trem.

It may be that the bridge plate is actually "stuck" to the finish. With the above screws loosened, firmly push down on the trem arm until the bridge "unsticks" from the finish. You may bend the arm or even break it off if you push too hard. If it doesn't move by pushing the trem arm, then turn the guitar onto it's front, looking at the back, and carefully stick a flat-blade screwdriver between the trem block and the body cavity on the trem spring side of the block. Pry the block away from the body, which will be the same movement as if you were pushing down on the trem arm. This should get the trem loose from the body.

Then go here to set up the trem properly.

Hope that helps! Let us know. :)
