I have looked all over and I cant seem to get any answers. Maybe one of you can help me. I bought this guitar off a buddy today and he didnt know much about it. Just needed the money for rent. Was his cousins old guitar or something.

Anyway, I was trying to match up the serial but if the serial is correct it should be a 69 model and I dont think thats right.

The guitar doesn say made in mexico, or japan or america. So, I'm clueless.

Any thoughts?

As you've found out it's kind of hard to do much with the serial number. If it has a big headstock with the large logo then it certainly could be a 1968-1970 Strat. I can tell you that one from that era would not have a rosewood fingerboard and the "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck. The serial number looks odd; kind of double stamped.

It would be useful to see photos of the entire guitar, not just the neck plate.

It is a parts guitar of some kind. At the very least the neck is a replacement. Fenders from say 1967 through 1982 used split-shaft tuners with squarish bodies that had an "F" on them. They did not use that kind of sealed tuner on USA guitars. There is no evidence that the tuners were replaced - if it was simply the tuners that were replaced there would be holes where the old tuners were removed.

Further, in that era the rosewood fingerboard guitars did not have a skunk stripe (that brown wood strip in the middle of the back of the neck); the truss rods were inserted from the front and the rosewood fingerboard was glued on. Also, it appears there is a truss rod adjustment in the plug that shows up behind the nut; necks from that era had the adjustment at the neck heel, plus that looks like a black plastic plug; Fender plugs were always walnut of the same color as the skunk stripe. However, the decal looks pretty good - it is either a Fender replacement (back when they would do things like that) or a really quality forgery.

The body is pretty well beat - it could be a vintage body, pickups, etc. with a replacement neck. It could be a true parts guitar using pieces from numerous sources. It could be a replica from one of the many builders who buy, relic and assemble guitars.
