Hi,

I'm wondering which model does those tones the best, that big 1970 type strat tone? considering the 68' reissue...your thoughts??

And don't forget the Marshall. Huge part of that sound.

Another common denomenator here is the Univibe. In Trower's case it was pretty much always on. Gilmour used one a lot. Hendrix less so but probably more famously.

If you have the scratch the Fulltone MDV2 is great. The MDV + a fuzz + my G&L legacy gets me these sounds.

Hi,

I'm well aware of what pedals to use...problem is I have a Suhr with a flat 16 radius. Do you think that the 7.25 radius is a big part of this sound? or more the pickups? also i'm left handed so many options are cut right there. Is the 68' reissue worth it? thanks

....sorry, I just like talking about univibes :)

I would think that the suhr would get you pretty darn close. I'm not sure that the 68 re-issue would make a world of difference. Nice guitars BTW.

The radius would make a difference for string bending but I would think the tonal difference -- especially when run through an amp and FX -- would be pretty small. The pickups would make more difference but how much really?

There are a million variables in these sounds -- the mixing board, the room that it was recorded in, compression, EQ mixing etc. that are probably going to make it hard to get you much closer to these sounds than you already are.

Tall order. With Hendrix, the configuration of the guitar stringing and pickup orientation matters. With Gilmour, the pickups, not only those in the Signature Strat, but the EMG DG-20. With them all, the signal path and the devices used. An interesting place to look is www.gilmourish.com.
