When I was 12 my mom bought me a guitar and encouraged me to learn how to play. Even though I took some lessons I didn’t stick with it. She even shipped my old guitar down here to Florida a few years before she passed away, hoping I would give it another try. Well, I finally have learned how and I wish she was here so I could thank her for it. This is the best I can do… I have an awesome new guitar that I consider a gift from her and I put her name on it. Thanks, Mom.

It's like we gave up when we were kids and wish we didnt.
I played a bit when I was 15 or so then started BSing with friends and put the guitar aside. I'm now 37 and been playing again for several years. I should kick myself for not being steady all those years ago, who knows how much better I would play by now. As kids it seems we have more ability but less focus. When I got serious again with it several years ago I was like, this is now or never. Now if I go a day without playing I miss it.

A fine tribute indeed, OL!

I like to commemorate significant moments in my family's history by formatting the date into a quasi-legitimate serial number, then having it stamped on the neck plate......

In this case, my daughter's birthday.

I've also used graduation and anniversary dates as well.

That was a very nice story. I'm glad I gave this thread a click

Your neck plate looks terrific, by the way.

Thanks, guys. Sorry about the giant picture, I should've taken the time to resize. FYI, if you have a Things Remembered in your local mall it only took about 20 minutes, and 20 bucks.

AWSOME ! I'm sure your mother would be very proud. Also, I LOVE the color of your guitar.

Very nice. Can you show us the rest of the guitar and/or describe it. Looks pretty cool!

Indeed!

I think we'd all love to see it as well.

It's a MIM Lake Placid Blue, brand new. I spent the last 6 months learning on a used Squire (which I really like) but I thought I deserved a brand new guitar....I posted a picture of it on this page.

Thanks for the nice feedback, guys. This site has been so helpful to me as I start my better late than never journey into the world of guitars, and I've been a strat fan ever since I saw Dick Dale playing one in a Beach Party movie when I was a kid.
