I bought an EC strat a couple of months ago and love it, but recently have been experiencing some very annoying static noice through my amp when my fingers brush against the plastic pick guard. I have checked my amp and cables with other guitars, and its definitely not a cable or amp issue. I was considering bringing the guitar back to the dealer but wanted to check to see if anyone else has had this problem before I do. If so, any solutions?

Thanks.

You've got a grounding problem. You need to check your solder joints and maybe reflow a couple of em. It's easy to do yourself or take it to a tech.

Thanks for that quick reply. Someone suggested to me that it could be caused by the dry heat conditions in my house (I live in the northeast so have had the heater on and the air in the house is very dry). If I had a grounding problem would the noise always occur? It seems to only happen after I've been playing 20 minutes or so, so maybe the static starts to build gradually. I was told to try keeping a couple of laundry dryer anti-static cloths in my case. I'll give that a try and if it doesn't help I'll have a tech look at the soldering.

I used to work at Guitar Center, and I remember that happening from time to time.. It was usually just a dead battery. I'm not sure if the new Clapton models with the Noisless pickups have active electronics like the older models with the Lace Sensor pick ups. You might want to check..

yes, the new EC models have active electronics and require batteries. I just put a brand new battery in and still have the static problem.

This is a common problem with nylon pickguards. They build up a static charge.
Try rubbing a dryer sheet (BOUNCE) over the pickguard and bridge. This will eliminate static as it does in the dryer for your clothing.

Belive me it works
