Hey I am interested in buying the TS pups but have heard that when using these pickups, and switching guitars, you have to reconfigure the eq to your amp... is this true?
Hope this is not confusing...

Everything can effect the sound. It starts at your fingers (SRV claims the way he pressed the Strat to his body made a difference), strings, neck, body, bridge, tuners, pickups, amp, and even room acoustics.

So to say changing the pickups "requires" altering your eq settings is subjective. Personally, I like eq settings flat, I don't like my amp to do anything but make the sound I put into it louder..which is what an amp is supposed to do. I like to keep it simple. I don't want the amp to alter the sound much.

Now when you are adjusting your sound, do you use a spectrum analyzer and an RTA meter??? Or, do you do what sounds good? Me, I do what sounds good. Certainly the pickups will change your sound some, but how you adjust the eq is up to you or your sound guy if you use one. An eq will boost or cut specific frequency bands if you wish to alter the sound..but IMHO is not "required" if the instrument sounds good as is.

I don't think it's true, in one guitar I have Texas Specials and the other has CS 69's and I don't find a need to change the EQ when switching between the two. I do play with the EQ alot but it depends on the song I'm playing. If you think about it why would you have to change the EQ because the pickups are different? The point of different pickups is to get a different sound so why change the EQ to get the sound back to the other pickups.

+1
I had a TX Special equipped Strat once. It was nice to have that variety. The TX Spcls had a little more output (especially the bridge pickup) and low mids compared to typical Strat pickups. It was a ballsy sound that I wouldn't have wanted to try dial out with EQ to make it sound like generic Strat pickups.

I have a Strat with Alnico III's in the neck and middle and a Dimarzio SD in the bridge, another strat with Alnico V in all three positions, and another Strat with Texas Specials in all three positions. I do not change the EQ settings on the amp, but I do have to decrease the tone on the TS equipped strat otherwise it is too trebely. But I do love the fact I have 3 very distinctive strat sounds.

It depends on how set your are in your desire to keep the exact same sound.

If so, that would hold true with almost any pickup change.

No, not at all. Changing the Eq is a matter of taste. The pickups should be adjusted right so you don't have to mess with EQ. Having the High E a little lower than the Low E makes a huge difference in tone.... Try that first before messing around with EQ's....
