What wattage of soldering gun/pen do I need for this?

Don't worry, I'll be practicingon some wires. And an
ibanez with a cracked neck. (don't ask) fell sometime last
year while I was moving furniture

I like a switchable 15/30W - cause it is nice to use the lower wattage on wires and small/single point lugs, and the higher on the back of pots or where numerous wires gang up and more heat is needed.

I use a Weller 40-watt soldering station for most guitar and amp work. I have a big 100-watt soldering iron for anchoring ground wires to trem claws.

Thanks, I saw some, really good prices at radioshack.
15-30 watt switchable was my first choice.
But I thought 40 watts was the way to go, but yeah, makes
sense to use lower wattage, and thin solder with resin core.
Not acid based.
1 more question? I can tin the tip with solder. Do i have
to use the can radioshack sells for tinning the tip ?
Is 60/40 appropriate , and what thickness?

I know, I'm a NOOB

A quality 60/40 rosin-core solder is perfectly acceptable. I also keep a tin of rosin gel and a stiff-bristled nylon brush close at hand to promote a rapid solder flow between the components to be joined. Be sure to keep your shop area properly ventilated during prolonged soldering sessions.

Best of luck
