Hey just wondering if a 7.5" radius neck frets out often?
I have heard that a 12" is a big help with this problem as far as bending goes, but just how much does it help?

I had a srv with a 12 neck and it never frets out. I have never played a 7.5 neck but I would imagine it would fret out very easily without a proper setup. Hopefully someone on here will help you that knows more... cheers

Not really, not if you have it setup right. I go back in forth between 7.25, 9.5, and 12 and it doesn't bother me one bit. Now depending on your playing style YMMV.

Well I was thinking more in the line of action ( or height of your strings from the Frets), which may or may not have a TR tweak or fret leveling/polishing involved. It also could be as simple as raising the saddles a bit.

The key to getting the most out of a 7¼" radius is a proper fret level/crown/polish job and dialing in the correct neck relief relative to the height of the action.

All of my 7¼" Fender necks are capable of four half-step bends on the high E string at the fifteenth fret without choking out.

+3 :)

I gigged my 79 Strat for years, and I do a lot of bending, properly setup I never had any issues. 9.5 or 12" radius makes it feel better but it can still be done with 7.25" with no fretting out.

+4
A lot of us geezers grew up with the 7.25 necks and the key to it is the setup.
I usually play a 9.5 and a 7.25 swapping out,and they feel just a little different but I bend to where I want to on either.

We can all explain it to you over and over again, but the 12" radius allows a lower action which makes bending easier. Best advice, go out and try a 60's Reissue strat and a Les Paul. Then you'll know which is better....

It frets out if the action is low enough. Hendrix didn't have a problem with it. But he did play some Gibson guitars though with a 12" radius. With lower action, strings are easier to bend. The higher number the radius, the easier the bending is....
