Not only can you replace it, it should be replaced. If a magnet won't stick to it, then it's pot metal.....errr, I mean Zinc (same thing). It makes a big difference in sustain and also makes the tone better.

Callaham is my choice. Just make sure that you measure your string spacing to get the right one. Some MIM Strats have the narrow 2-1/16 inch spacing and some have the wider 2-3/16 inch spacing (some call it 2-7/32..?).

The MIM saddles are typically lame also, so if you have it apart for a block change, Callaham saddles, or even Fender MIA saddles would be an improvement. :)

Be careful of Graphtechs if you use 9's or 10's. Mine were buzzing on the open B and high E right at the saddle. Had to take them back off. It was just the way the saddles sat for the proper height adjustment along with the Graphtechs having a somewhat wide groove in them.

Sure you can.
I have a callaham steel block (see the link in athe post above) in Squier CV 50s and MIM standard strats (they have the same body routing, lucky me!).

I can highly recommend the product. I paid around $60 plus shipping for one. They are not cheap but very good product. Just make sure to order a metric 6 hole spacing. Did it make a difference in both guitars? I think it did.

Just my opinion, but I think the larger '06+ OEM blocks are perfectly fine and don't beg to be replaced. I asm not so protective of the saddles, though, which I do think can stand replacement.

Again, just my opinion ...

Yes, the bigger blocks were an improvement for sure. :)

Aboslutely! Go to angela.com, ton's of replacement parts for MIM and Squires!!! I replaced my block in the same way and used them to change all my hardware to gold for less than $100.
