I'm looking to find a figured wood pickguard (most likely a bird's eye or burled maple) for a strat. Does anyone here have any recommendations of where to get one? I've only found a couple of venors online and the pickguards they sell are actually a layer of laminent glued onto plastic. I'm a little worried about the wood layer separating from the plastic over time. Does anyone know where to find any that are 100% wood?

Any suggestions and experiences with a wooden pickguard would be most appreciated.

Hi Ryan: I clearly remembered that pretty Strat of yours. By posting it here you have saved me the trouble of going searching for your original thread about it! :D

Love that neck too... 8)

Cheers - C

PS And a red Knopfler Sig too, if memory serves?

Ebay seems like one of the easiest places to find one made of wood.

A friend of mine who worked with circuit boards made one out of a one layer PCB once...a novelty look, but kind of strange looking.

Nevin, thanks buddy!

To the OP, I don't remember who exactly I got it from, but here are some good sellers to look at:
http://myworld.ebay.com/bluesman_82&ssP ... X:SELLERID
http://myworld.ebay.com/bhefnerco&ssPag ... X:SELLERID

Hope that helps! I love a good piece woodworking!

I did, but as I mentioned in the original post, what I had found was mainly wood laminate on plastic, which is why I asked if anyone had any experience with these. I worry about the laminate layer coming unglued. Also, since everyone I have found selling/making these are smaller sellers, I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations before buying -- I've read, and experience some myself, too many stories where custom parts makers either can't deliver what they promised or drop off the face of the earth after they have your money. I don't see any harm in asking what someone else's experiences have been first before spending money.

Try www.bhefner.com I found them on the web awhile back and thought they looked pretty nice. Check 'em out.

Hi, I order wooden guards from George Varkoly who custom builds them. He can do several kinds of wood and the fit perfect. He is fast, personable and professional. This guy sells a lot of these on eBay. You can get a better deal direct from him.

http://www.woodguarden.com

You can email him at: gvarkoly@verizon.net

Here is custom Strat Plus I built a while back in Ash with a Maple Neck and using one of his Maple pickguards. This has a double Ultra Lace Sensor Duallys in Black. Note that he even cut the Lace Dually cut with the rounded edges!
