Why do they refer to it as the 70's large headstock when clearly it was used much earlier?

I can't believe that someone is trying to pass this off as an original!

Hi Brian: impossible to authenticate a vintage guitar from those small photos even if I were an expert - which I'm not. However, for the little it is worth I see no obvious problems so far as things like the headstock, pickguard screws, 12th position dot markers and such are concerned.

No immediate alarm bells.

Hopefully nobody would be quite so stupid as to buy on the basis of that minimalist listing, though. I expect that's just meant to serve the purpose of an "introduction".

For comparison. I can't find an exact match on a '66 currently on the market, but here is a 1968 sunburst also for sale in London. Much worse condition regarding the finish and a replaced pickup: this one is going for £3250 / $4968. But then that is through an expensive dealer with their markup included:

Whatever: there's a visual guide as to what we expect to see on a late '60s Strat.

Cheers - C

Because they have to blame something on the demon CBS.

Large headstocks go back to 1958 ... check out the Jazzzmasters and Jaguars ... Leo's desire for large headstocks was quite clear.

Right. A quick update for you. I asked him for some pics of the guitar for closer inspection and I just received 10 pictures of a completely different guitar. This one is SO unlike the photos in the original ad. Small headstock, pieces missing from scratchplate, scratches and reclic marks everywhere.
Buyer be very aware. I think Craiglist London are having quie a few scams at the moment according to what I have read.
