Hi , My names adrian, I live in Rockhampton Queensland Australia , and i have been performing in Rock n roll bands for ten years now , i have only been using cheap Squier Fat Strat copies (with Humbucker 2 single coils (Around 800 dollars (australian price) , but am ready to buy my first Official Fender Stratocaster , i have a 15-1600 dollar (AUS) price range to spend but am not sure exactly what would be a GREAT guitar for this price range, is there a descent strat for this price with a Maple fret board, humbucker and descent single coil pik ups i can be looking at because frankly everything on the net is in american prices and im not sure so i guess my question is ......
What strats are descent for professional performing musicians with this price range , Cheers...

I just took a quick look at Ebay Au. There's plenty of American made strats in your price range there. Looks like you can afford an American Standard, American Vintage, Highway One. Even saw a recent anniversary model. There were a few used Clapton models also that were in your price range. Do a little shopping, play a few guitars. You shouldn't have much of a problem finding a quality American made strat you can afford. I'd go used if I were you, that'll stretch your dollar some and give you some wiggle room for haggling. Good Luck!

I'm not familiar with the current exchange rate so suggestions are difficult at this writing. As the previous contributor suggests, first get into the catalogs and digest what the company is providing with respect to spec. Learn the subtle differences between the various models. I would say, from the point of view of someone who is playing these guitars since 1958, that you might want to start with the new American Standard coming in January '08 as an all around journeyman's instrument. You have been playing a particularly sophisticated pickup combo on your exisitng axe, and these Squiers are often well-made, so, if an HSS is of particular interest to you, Fender has a variety of models which are available as such. in a variety of price ranges which are determined by point of assembly.

Got cracking, and get back to these pages if you need further advice.

The exchange rate is approximately

AUS $ 1600 = US $ 1400

That should buy almost any non-Custom Shop, American made Fender.

If you like the large headstock, a Highway One HSS is quite a value.

You have that HSS option in the American, American Deluxe series and the Highway One as noted. Then there's the Lone Star, and Fat Strat, which are likely not American made but well made.
