I went to the guitar store today and tried the following-
- Mex Standard
- Mex Lone Star
- Mex Classic Player 50s
- Mex Classic Player 60s

I thought the classic 50s really stood out and i really liked the maple neck.
Although the lone star strat had better looks and a nice humbucker, i thought the classic 50s gave a really nice crisp authentic strat sound.

Does anybody have the 50s? Any reviews/notes?

Now to the main question, i have read that the classic 50s strat allows apecial switching to allow neck and bridge pickup together, however the fender site describes the 5 way selector to work as per regular strats.
How does the switch work?

Whilst i am here, i really like the look of the Deluxe Players Strat (with push/pull switch) and i think i want it, but have not had the chance to play it. What do people think of this guitar? Also, what is the difference between this new model and the old 'Super Strat'??

Thanks!

is it a classic 50's series or classic player's 50's?
very different, not very noticable, but
pickups,2 point tremolo vs 6 point, 9.5 radius classic players versus 7.5 classic series
im not sure but posibly even wiring.

The "Classic Player 50s" Strat has special wiring, position 4 is Neck and Bridge pickups, instead of the standard Neck and Middle pickups. It sounds like a Telecaster when in position 4, and all the other positions are normal. The "Classic Player 50s" Strat has 57/62 reissue pickups.

The "Deluxe Players" Strat is an updated version of the "Super Strat" and has the same push/push button switch that adds the Bridge pickup to positions 4 and 5, with the button pushed in. It also sounds like a Telecaster in position 4 with the button pushed in. The "Deluxe Players" Strat has noiseless pickups.

I have owned and played both guitars, both sound good. The "Deluxe Players" Strat has a satin finish on the back of the neck, while the "Classic Player 50s" Strat has the gloss finish on the back of the neck.

Yes, it is definately a "Classic Players 50's", it has the vintage pickups and 9.5" neck.
Thanks for confirming the switching, i think the fender website is incorrect.

Do you really own all of those guitars!!!???

Do you know if there is any other difference between a super strat and a deluxe players strat? Because i am finding it difficult to find a deluxe players, wheras there are a few super strats fairly cheap on ebay.

Also, in your opinion, what is a better guitar, the deluxe players or the classic player 50s??

Thanks!

Yes, I like to collect guitars. I can't play very well, but I can drool just fine. I guess that you could say that it is guitar porn and I'm addicted! I still have more pictures to put up also. :D
The Deluxe Players Strat is an updated version of the Super Strat. The Deluxe Players has noiseless pickups and a satin finish on the back of the neck and an Ash body and a 12 inch neck radius. The Super Strat has "Super Fat Super Strat" pickups, gloss finish neck, a laminated alder body and a 9.5 inch neck radius.

Both the Deluxe Players and Classic Player 50s are great guitars, each has its own merits. If I was forced to choose one, I would pick the "Classic Player 50s" because it has a more vintage sound with its 57/62 reissue pickups, and it has locking tuners and a 50s style soft V neck. But, I like the satin finish on the Deluxe Players neck, and it's extra choices on the pickup selector switch with the push button, so it would be a tough choice. But I don't have to choose, I bought both new and would have a hard time parting with either.

I noticed that my pictures of the Super Strat were all mislabeled as a "Deluxe Players", so I corrected the titles.

Ok, thanks. I shouldn't buy a guitar before trying it, so maybe i will leave the super strat and go and play a deluxe players. I really like the sound of the push/pull switch and the slimmer neck.

I wish i had the funds to form a collection like yours!

Do you have an american deluxe? I played one yesterday and i thought it was amazing, but at £1000 i couldn't really justify the improvement over a sub £500 alternative like the classic player 50s.

No, I have never cared for the block saddles or the abalone fret dots on the American Deluxe. I agree, I would rather have a Classic Player 50s than an American Deluxe. Forgot to mention that the Classic Players 50s has a Custom Shop bridge with decent saddles, but I would still change the bridge block to a Callaham. It seems that the only Strat offered these days with a decent bridge block is the Eric Johnson model.
