Greetings everybody,
Been away for a while but It's good to be back.
Now to the question or gripe however you choose to look at it. I own several American Strats and one mim strat and although there's not that much of a variable in the weight beteween 8.2 to 8.6 lbs I weighed my mim strat and the Guit was like 6.9 almost 7 lbs. Now with everyone out there telling me and the world that the mim's are just as good as the American ones I can now honestly dispute that statement. Man if these Guits are going to hold any credibelity the weight has got to be at least in the Ball park range. And also on my mim strat the noisless pup in the neck position went out. Carried it to my tech. and lo and behold the actual wire had broken. Again! Within range,, Well that didn't hurt too much I hope. I still love the Strats but from here My taste will have to be restricted to American and MIJ now those have a very compairable weight feel very vintage vibe with lots of attatude. :x

Noiseless pickups can be found in any strat. Those are prone to go bad. Electronics shouldn't be included because I have a Fender Deluxe series that used American parts and its way better that a Highway 1 and a AM Special. Its right on par with an American Standard... But its MIM....

I have been playing for a few years now and in that time when ever i talk about a fender it seems to be get american or nothing. I know a few people with mexican fenders and it seems like every one or two in ten are good guitars. When deciding for my first electric (i was playing acoustic for about a year and a half) my price range was a used godin lg or a used mexican strat. The godin was 300 dollars and was in nicer condition and overall quality then the mexican strat. If anyone wants to get a nice cheap guitar i would look for a godin. The quality is the same as an american standard strat.

From what I've been seeing lately is that not just 1 or 2 in 10 are good but just about 10 out of 10.Back in the 90s the quality of MIM Fenders in general wasn't consistant ,they made some dogs and some were exceptional but since 2000 the quality has risen incredibly and I'm hearing that from musicians and dealers.I have yet to find a below par MIM Fender recently in any of the guitar stores that I frequent. If your friends are experiencing this kind of trouble with MIM Fenders it is very puzzling unless they are all older or bought used.I have 3 MIM Fenders and all 3 are above average in sound, build quality and playability.

We are talking wood density and paint to determine weight. Does it really matter? The point is a resonate wood that helps the tone accoustically, but its the way the neck, body, and tremolo all work together to produce a wonderful sound heard through the electronics... Weight doesn't matter. If that was the case, would it be a problem that Gibson chambers their higher end Les Pauls making them lighter that the Studios or Epiphones??? Nope, not at all, just makes them lighter....
