I played one of these yesterday at GC for the first time. My impressions were the N3s sounded ok but the guitar overall did not sound nearly as good as my EJ or Hot Rod 62 Strats. I was underwhelmed by the Deluxe. Good build quality and such but the tones were a little dead sounding. The classic Strat tones were kind of there in the Deluxe but are their in spades in the EJ and HR62. Maybe I would need to spend more time with the Deluxe with my own setup to really appreciate it?

I felt the same vs. my American Standard. The Dlx I tried was an HSS, and the HB added a bit, but otherwise - mmeh.

I love the feel of the Deluxe V neck, but I'm not crazy about the pickups either. In general, I just don't like noiseless pickups as much as regular single coils.

The N3s on my Deluxe were replaced with Fralins after 3 days. Felt the same way about the Lace Sensors 20 years ago... the N3s sounded more like a Strat than the Lace did but still lacked that sparkle.

yeah, at first I got excited when i saw the new Am Deluxes, especially the contoured heel and compound radius, S1 switching etc. Haven't tried one, but afraid the N3's might be a little sterile sounding. Most demos i've seen of the guitar are done with some gain, so it's hard to tell

I watched some demos of the 2010 American Deluxes online and thought they sounded a little dull. When I finally ran across a Deluxe Ash in a local music shop, I gave it a try and found it to missing a little of that bite we've come to expect from Strats.

The guitar played and looked great (Tobacco Sunburst) and the build quality is the best I've seen on a stock Fender, so I ended up buying iy. I wound up leaving the N3s in the guitar. I've really grown to like their sound and the extra options you get from the S1 switching system. To my ears, the guitar's tone has a smoother edge to it that inspired me to approach things a little differently when I play it and has become my favorite Strat.

I must say I got very lucky with my Deluxe Ash, it's a beautiful one piece ash and it's so light! I bet it weighs 6.5 lbs max. Build quality is as good or better than some CS I've seen. Other than the N3 it's perfect :)

It all depends on your taste... I'm looking into Dimarizio Area pickups for the noiseless features with more bite...
