What kind of guitar is this. None of the markings show it would be a fender but at the same time i think i remember seeing a pic of this guitar in a fender book. This guitar is extremly rare and nobody has any info on it. I don't think it's a greco either.

Please Help!!

Definately not Fender since the headstock is blank. I found this little tidbit of info which someone says could be Clearsound???: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/stratocaster ... strat.html

Is this your guitar? Or where did you find the pic? Any more detailed pics?

Here's a link to the famous lucite Strat that Fender built in 1957 and finished in 1961! Even the neck is clear, unlike the one you are questioning.

Here is mine. as you can see the single coil was replaced with a double but beside that it is identical. ( The double is a damarzio) and was in there before I bought it 13 years ago at a garage sale. Very heavy guitar but plays as good as any fender I have played. Neck feels great.

I am aware of the all lucite Fender that is pictured above. I check under "Clearsound" and couldn't find it either. Same for Greco. I looked at the tuners as for identity but couldn't find the tuners anywhere either.
(Note the star stamp on the tuners)

Any input as to where I can get info would be awsome.

Tell us a little more about where you got it, or if you have it at all. I have seen these bodies for sale on eBay. It could be a partscaster...... Have you opened the hood or taken off the neck?

They have them on ebay for around $130 all the time. Kinda cool looking and Geezer Butler played a clear acrylic bodied Bass for awhile.

I found it at a garage sale back in 1997. Their son had it for about ten years but they said they bought it used for him for his birthday. I do know it was produced in japan in 1978. there is an etching under the front pickup. Beside that I have no idea. Whatever it is it is impossible to find and info on it. I don't believe this is one of those 130.00 blanks you buy from ebay. I think it is much older and it has very good quality work right down to the clean soldering inside.

I have Tony Bacon's "The Ultimate Guitar Book" from back in 1991/1992 and it does have a photo of the guitar in the first post. Bacon's little description does call it a "1978 ClearSound" clear strat copy. It's listed on a 2-page spread of "Other 1970s Japanese guitars" such as the gumby-shaped Yamahas, a Tokai Strat copy and about 10 other guitars. You can very clearly read the "ClearSound" headstock logo in the photo in Bacon's book. Sorry, I don't have a scanner so I can't post anything.

No other information other than that, and as you have found out nothing other than your post on Sweetwater's forum and that stock photo you posted turns when you google "ClearSound Strat copy".

What markings are on the base of the neck?

Any markings on the back of the pickups?

We'd need those to identify the Japanese maker.

In the seventies, people started making cheap copies of Gibson and Fender guitars. Gibson and Fender successfully sued to stop the practice. Chances are, your guitar is one of those. Some of them are collectible, some aren't.

John C, That is exactly the book that I saw it in as well. It has been about 10 years since though. This is wear I got the Clear sound name.

No distinct markings on the neck or anywhere else but I will pull the pick guard and see if I can find anything on the pickups.

Thank you for the info so far everyone.
