This is pretty old news.
there are many websites out there selling illegal fake Fenders, Gibsons, Martins, etc, for very low prices.

Thanks Tanner.

Are they easy to spot?
Anybody have any experience with them?

They are easy to spot by looking at the price. Why is it that every time I've seen a link to that "made in china" website, The guitar in question costs $136.20? With all the reputable companies out there ( Sweetwater, AMS, Musicians Friend, etc.) why would someone even consider sending money to that website for a guitar. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm of the opinion that I need to hold the guitar and play it before I buy. Call me crazy, Pedals strings pickups etc. all ok on line from an established company, but a guitar... No Way! Please $136.20.....

My guess is that no one in their right mind would buy one of those guitars from that website thinking they are getting a quality guitar.
My worry is that some unscrupulous individual might buy a few of different models and sell them for what would be an acceptable price for a a real one on ebay or craigslist.
If they aren't easy to spot you've just put a major dent in the confidence of used instrument buyers. All they have to do for ebay is look good in pictures.

I see your point, And I can imagine someone without a lot of guitar knowledge may be taken in by one who tried to sell them as an Original Fender, Thats why I say I personally would not buy a guitar unless I have checked it out in person. And If I were a beginner with my hard earned cash I had saved for the guitar of my dreams. I would have someone who has had some Face time with a quality Guitar with me to check it out. I f that was not possible I would buy my guitar from a reputable brick and mortar guitar shop. Let's face it, Money does not grow on trees. (it never did in my neighborhood anyway) 8)

Good sense Marvin. I'm probably being a little paranoid.
(Keeping my eye out anyway.)

Yeah, thats good lookin' out, and no offense intended, I get upset when I see those websites as well, and think some kid is going to get burned. I guess I just don't trust the internet at all and the guitar stores only half the time.I spent a lot of cash over the years. Some spent wisely and some not so wisely. but I guess thats how you learn. I would still never buy a guitar just by seeing a picture of it, and not actually playing it first. Thats why a guitar store is a good place to compare what you are buying against the top shelf stock and see how it fits. Thats my advice to any novice thinking about buying their first guitar. 8)
