The op is back. I been having lots of anxiety with a bad case of insomnia that has been getting worse. When I came across the suhr site talking about the woods not going together good it really bothered me and I was very upset with myself. Im so glad I came on here and posted. I read every reply and they put me in a better mood and some cracked me up they were so funny. I dare to say I'm liking my new strat more then my deluxe which has been my number one. If you hear sizzle you know its me jamming... :D

Here's the kind of sizzle I don't like: the sizzle of brand new strings. IMO the new strings make a guitar sound too much like a piano. Luckily, that sizzle goes away with a little playing and then I get to the sounds I like best.

Enjoy that guitar PeterGrant ...

+1

I hate the sound of new strings. That "tinny, rattle, jaggle" thing they do before they settle in has always bothered me.

My Rosewood & Ash (Lace Hot Golds, S-1, Tbx & Clapton Mid boost) Partcaster is my No. 1 at the mo.

Was the guitar previously owned by some Russian spy? If so it could be the sound of high speed data transfert that you're hearing. I am also considering to offer the Ash Stratocaster Burial services. Don't like your Strat anymore? Send it to me, I'll take good care of it.

I actually love the sound of freshly installed set of D'addarios on a Strat, reminds me of the sweet Robert Cray tone..

Yes, me too. New strings are just the ticket on a Strat.

Infact new strings on ANY guitar.. guess we're all different..

If you want to say "man this guitar has sizzle" to a buddy, then fine... If you play a gig with that guitar, I personally promise you that nobody in the audience is going to come to you after the show and say "wow-- you really ruined the show. that guitar has too much sizzle."

That's too funny!   Really, I have a few Strats: Alder, Ash, Ash laminated on Alder, Basswood, some with Maple and some with Rosewood and even Ebony fret boards. I think too much is made of the tonal qualities in all these woods. It effects them some but nothing a little tweak on an amp can't change. Density also plays a factor in tone and sustain. For me it is the touch....you pickup a guitar and it just has that feel. Then with good pickups and a good tube amp....wow you get what you need...so ya, I am with everyone else on this one. Play it and then decide...... this just shows the power of suggestion..... Peter, read this: "give your guitar to me....give your guitar to me......give your guitar to me....

Now reagrding the swaping of necks on these guitars..I think it is a great idea...sorry Peter! Check out these two picts and see which way you like them the best:

Nice photoshop.. The deluxe has a contoured heel and the standard doesn't. Only 3 bolts line up....

Its wierd the strange notions people get about tone woods/ specs. In high school I owned an ash Telecaster, and refused to play a Fender with an Alder body. I dont even recall where I heard Ash was better (possibly from some website). Now I only have Alder Fenders. It just took me picking one up and thinking "that guy was full of crap.... even though I dont even remember where I heard that Alder was inferior."
A guy I jam with would only play guitars with set necks becasue some kid that worked in a music store told once him that bolt-on necks were garbage. He plays exclusively Fenders today, but wouldnt touch one for years because of a comment some tool at Best Buy made.
I would like to think that I am more enlightened today, but I still dont like basswood bodies. I probably read that online when I was 14 and just decided that I dont like them?

I didn't think you would really do it, but man, I think the rosewood on the dark body and the Maple on the Ash looks pretty cool. One time I was told that all MIM Fenders were garbage, so after that, for a few years, I would not touch them—then I picked up a MIM Tele and then later a MIM Strat. Wow, great guitars for the price. I overcame the power of suggestion! I recorded a blues piece and a few guys asked me "What guitar did you use on that?" thinking for sure it was one of my custom wired USA Strats...but they fell over when I told them it was a stock MIM Tele!

Regarding Basswood.....I have had a bunch of MIJ Teles and Strats made with it. I really could not tell much difference but on a couple of the guitars I knew the wood was softer as it dented easier. Great thread by the way!

OP; Glad you've seen the way.....

BTW I guess I really must like sizzle:

The Cherry Burst in the middle is an Am Ash DLX, and the Natural on the right is my '78 Strat Hardtail (as sizzlily as the come)

Oh; and....

Can you imagine how much sizzle an ash bodied telecaster would have with a rosewood neck? OH MY GAWD!
