This is truly mind boggling, this rates up there with Eric Johnson saying that taking off the back plate changes his tone. Go with your ears and what sounds good to you. As I have stated on here many times a guy named Vanhalen took $180 in knockoff Strat parts and stuck in a humbucker from a Gibson which would seem to be the wrong thing to do and there are hundreds of guys who have spent thousands of dollars trying to copy that tone. There are no rules or everything would sound so vanilla. The guys who go out on a wire and go against the norm are the innovaters. Too much sizzle, we are making music not cooking a steak.

Don't overthink it. Maybe you do a neck swap with the 2 guitars. But really, these a 2 sweet strats! I'm sure many players would love to have them both in their arsenal.

BTW, ash and rosewood is not an odd pairing -- Like somebody said, Fender's been making them this way for years, for a good reason..

Too much "sizzle"?

I guess Suhr either hasn't perfected this combination yet or has too much invested in other woods. Regardless, in my over 40 years of playing I have NEVER heard of any guitar having "sizzle", let alone varying degrees of it (whatever it may be).

Just because someone in a perceived position of authority on a given subject makes a proclamation on something related to that subject, it does NOT automatically follow that it is true. Rather, although not automatic here either, it may very well be false. Case in point: I've owned MANY Strats over the years. My #1 Strat is in fact, a rosewood/ash combo. I can honestly say that nothing pertaining to its tonality has me perceive anything akin to "sizzle". :?: :?: :?:

The bottom, top and everything in between lines here are, YOUR ear is the judge. Don't let anyone influence you otherwise.

I had about two dozen of these guitars with ash bodies and rosewood fretboards.

Nah I'm bs'ing, I never even touched one.

Don't believe everything you read...especially if it's on the internet.

My Starcaster has no "sizzle", if you'ld like to trade just pm me.

Bought an '09 of the exact guitar about 6 weeks ago...was contemplating getting a Jaguar or a 50s Tribute when I saw it...plugged it in, and after literally 1 strum fell in love. The tone was & is AMAZING. I sold my Dlx, sold my MIM, and passed on the new Dlx 'cause of the sound of this Ash w/Rosewood in comparison blows 'em away.

Nothing wrong with that combination!

Ok, jumping in with both feet....LOL Who cares what this guy says?? You have to go with what YOU like and what feels/sounds good to you! I have a couple MIM Strats and Teles and well, some of the gear snobs i record/play with turn their noses at these fine instruments. Me, I love the feel/tone and looks of them. I don't care about other people's opinions. I will ask hey what are your experiences with x or Y but in the end I go with what is right for me. If you bought this guitar and loved it then it is all good. This is the curse of the internet and forums sometimes..:)

I thought this thread was a joke until I looked up Suhr's website and found another quote:
"Maple / Indian Rosewood – Sweet and warm with some sparkle on the top end, Indian Rosewood is probably one of the most popular fingerboard woods. It is open grained with colors ranging from brown black to red brown. Warm and fat, it is not too bright and not too dark - very neutral, it does however have more "sizzle" than 1-piece Maple necks."
http://www.suhrguitars.com/wood.aspx

All I can say is " ".

Funny how 99.99% of other guitar makers claim that rosewood fingerboards decrease the "sizzle" and give a warmer tone than 1-piece maple. Can "sizzle" be measured? It's all conjecture unless there is data to back it up.

Like fingerprints, no two pieces of wood are exactly alike even from the same tree - therefore no two guitars of even the same model are going to sound exactly 100% the same. Take all tonewood claims you read on the internet with a grain of salt. You've got a VERY nice guitar, I'm sure it sounds fine. Go play it.

This is stupid as the ash and fretboard will make only a very small difference. Ash has mostly the same sonic properties as alder, but
ash is considered to have a more attractive grain pattern. As for the fretboard, we all know that the sonic difference between maple
and rosewood is very subtle, if any ...

When I think of sizzle, I think of an over distorted sound with no bass and too much highs. Is this guy only plugging into an amp with the gain set 10 and the bass set to 0 treble on 10?

My strat will sizzle compared to my other guitars under high gain, almost buzzy, but I hear no sizzle that cannot be removed with eq and gain adjustments.

A guitar that sizzles distorted probably sparkles set clean. You do have to match the tools to the job. Since Ash is generally thought to be a brighter sounding wood, I would think a RW fingerboard would be the perfect match to remove some sizzle.

Be happy with your purchase, and use your amps tone controls to hone in the sounds you like....I rearly blame a guitar for not sounding good, to me it is the amp that will make or break a given guitar. They have to match well too.

I had a 78 ash bodied Strat(I had to get rid of it only because I had a spinal fusion and it was too heavy)with a maple fretboard and it was one of the best sounding Strats I ever played.I haven't played a Strat before or since that had the sustain of this beauty.Ash has long been recognized as a superb tone wood.I'm not sure what Suhr means by"sizzle"but my 78 had lots of sustain and a bell like chime that no other Strat I've encountered had.I'd say that you should keep that little beauty you have there, the Twin has an eq section that's more than capable of taming any undesirable "sizzle"your guitar may have.If you're still not satisfied with it I'll gladly put up with any sizzle that it has.

I guess I've had sizzle for the past 25 years of playing this Strat and didn't even know it. Thanks for ruining everything, now I have to sell it! :(
