I just got a 2010 sienna sunburst ash with rosewood board and somethings been bothering me. I was doing some research on the ash and found this.

" Rosewood fingerboard on Ash body will give too much sizzle for many players. We would only build such combination if you are positive that this is what you want." from Suhr site

I played it for a few hours along with a American special with maple board. I like the standard sienna and since I already had a maple board on my deluxe I got the rosewood. I wanted an ash body because of the wood being different. Now every time I go to play my new strat I cant get that saying out of my mind that ash and rosewood fretboard together don't mix well and have to much sizzle (whatever that is). I cannot return it and I'm being really hard on myself.. I wish I would of got a maple neck because of the combo of ash and rosewood don't musically mix... there for to much SIZZLE...... My Fender friends please help with my recent purchase and my crazy mind..... Thanks..

Forget about the construction for a moment. Plug it into your twin reverb, play it vigorously with medium to high volume, and if it brings a smile to your face, it's a keeper. Remember. One man's tone is not necessarily another man's tone. Play on!

So........LetMeGitThisStrait.....

You love the guitar so much you bought it and now that you read some web site that said according to some alleged know it all, you no longer like it because of some sizzle jizzle thing that you can even hear?

Well, let me help you out here.
I am an X Fender employee and a X G&L employee, I even worked with Gorge and Leo, and I know they have made guitars like this for 40+ years and if they didn't sound good to someone that sure would have stopped making them a long time ago.
To me, the Rosewood is a better choice for a Ash body as the ash is s bright wood, the rosewood ads more body to the overall tone, warming it up without loosing that pop.

This dudes opinion not withstanding, I think it is a great choice.

You played it for a considerable time prior to purchasing and you liked it better than a maple neck strat in comparo. You then read somebody's opinion and proceeded to totally discount what your ears told you. My verdict is don't believe everything you read. In fact, forget you read that opnion (don't care if it's John Suhr or the lord Jesus Christ), and go back to trusting what your ears tell you!

I have an American deluxe that is ash and rosewood and it sounds great. the bright sound of ash and warm sound of rosewood really come together well.

That is Suhr's opinion. That's a Fender guitar. I have to agree with what everyone else has said. You played it, you liked it, you bought it, then you read someone else's opinion on it.
Forget what you read. Go play it for an hour or three and make up your own mind. The only opinion that matters in the long run is YOURS!!

i cant believe im reading this.
your letting somebody else tell you what you should like.
screw him. you liked it enough to buy it didnt you? well then like it enough
to play the dang thing.
i like the looks of it. very sweet. if you dont like the tone change the pickups, adjust your amp, tweak your stomp box even. if that dont work any number of us will take it.
nevin not included. he has enough guitars already.

Well, there's so much WTF going on here I don't know where to start...

1. When have you EVER heard a guitar player say "awww this thing has too much sizzle" I'm willing to bet it's never. I've never heard anyone say that before. I've heard someone say that a guitar is awesome because it has lots of growl. I'm not even sure, honestly, what "sizzle" means in this context. It's an even worse quote because of that. Volume? Gain? Growl? Distortion? Sometimes I think these guitar builders need to stop trying to be cool and treat customers like adults. If you want to say "man this guitar has sizzle" to a buddy, then fine. But to a client? In text, where you can't tell at all or ask what that means? That really turns me off. That rant aside...

2. Ash/rosewood isn't THAT unusual. Matter of fact, a lot of people would probably prefer having rosewood to offset the ash a bit. Either choice is fine.

3. Don't question your ears. You're playing to make you happy, not to impress someone you don't even know. I've read negative comments about guitars / equipment I've owned before and in every case I've been more than happy to assume the person was an idiot, regardless of qualifications. Music is subjective. If the ghost of SRV walzed into my livingroom and said one of my teles sounded horrible I'd be disappointed that my hero didn't know as much as I thought he did, not disappointed in my guitar which obviously sounds amazing because I bought it. Being cocky can be bad in some areas of life, but it almost always improves your guitar playing!

4. If you play a gig with that guitar, I personally promise you that nobody in the audience is going to come to you after the show and say "wow-- you really ruined the show. that guitar has too much sizzle." Next time you worry about a quote like that, picture someone actually saying it in person after a gig. You'll find that most gear-related chatter (especially on the 'net) is complete bs and doesn't happen in practical settings. Might be fun to talk about, but bs nonetheless.

Chin up and play the guitar-- it's gorgeous. Bet it sounds great too.

I have the exact same guitar, colour and everything.

I love everything about it. It sounds great with distortion, and has a nice warm clean tone.

I agree with everyone else. Play it for an hour, use your amp's eq and then decide.

Also, what is sizzle? Can I cook bacon on it?

I am royally jealous of your new strat, for lack of a better adjective

It is a common saying among guitar aficionados that Rosewood fingerboards actually produce a pleasant, warmer tone, whereas Maple fingerboards have somewhat of a more "snap" to them - although the difference is more than subtle.

I'd like to know who invented the word "sizzle" and stuck it in the same sentence as a guitar. Anyway..
You were perfectly justified in getting the fingerboard opposite to the one which you had currently owned. I would have done the very same thing. And hey- how about that GORGEOUS Sienna Sunburst? :P

Wow, that ash Strat is a lovely guitar, how does it sound to you is the important thing.

I just can't believe that Strat and a Twin Reverb couldn't be set up to sound GREAT together!

I say get a patch lead, output from channel 1's number 2 jack into channel 2's number 1 jack. Guitar into channel 1's number 1 jack. Crank the hell out of both channels and enjoy all the tasty sizzle you can get!
