Anyone play these badboys yet? I'm in the market for a new guitar and I've been crossed between this one and the John Mayer signature. It just has such a sweet sound to it!

The AVRI '62 is my favorite guitar. Pure love here. I've had one since 1996. It's got all the vintage vibe you need. Feels great, sounds great. What more can you ask for?

Thanks for the output! Say I'm looking for a guitar that can do John Mayer kind of tone (same tone in his Bold As Love cover live) and also switch to that clean Fender sound and beyond. Basically, a very versatile strat, would the '62 be my best bet?

well you could go that route. I personally don't think that stock 57/62s sound too close to the JM tone (I had a set in my The Black One replica, and had Fralin rewind them to my spec)

I would suggest the CP 60s, the CS 69s really are great for the deep blues-based tone JM has. also the Mayer sig, and the soon-to-be-released Ltd. Ed. The Black One "NOS" sig would be your best bet. the NOS is supposed to have pickups based on the original's pickups, so those would be ideal in nailing John's sound.

Not withstanding the different truss rod and trem system; I've often wondered if putting 57/62 PUs in my Am Std would make it sound like a 62 RI ??

I once played a 62 Ri in a local music shop, the sound was great, didn't like the tiny frets or high camber through; I'm also not too keen on having to unbolt the neck to adjust the truss rod!

Advise please...

wondering if someone could tell by a picture about what year the guitar I was playing. I was in a high school rock band early 80's and did not have a clue as to the gem I was playing. A friend let me use there Fender Strat. I have always wondered it was either in the fifties or early 60's. If it is possible I will be glad to provide a picture. Sad thing was back then I wanted to play the les Paul over the strat. I guess you get wiser with age:)

As great as the American Vintage 62's are consider the American Vintage 62 Hot Rod as well. Nice, thick, chunky neck with a flatter radius to facilitate bending. I have one and it's absolutely divine.
