I'm so fortunate to have grown up in Macon, and had many brushes with the Allman's. Eat A Peach was the first 8-track I ever bought! The scene here in the 70's was nothing short of incredible, with so many great musicians in the area. Grant's Lounge was the happening club, many nights the Brothers would show up and take over the stage, joined by whoever was in town recording at the studio. Dickie sat in with my band at the Red Lamp Lounge one Saturday, a night I'll never forget! It's amazing the notables that called Macon home, including Otis Redding, Little Richard, Johnny Jenkins, Bonnie Bramlett and Chuck Leavell just to name a few.
Thanks for the post, "Remember Duane Allman"!!!

stratgm,
Yep you're really lucky,or let me say fortunate,to have lived in Macon.
I really love the place and have thought about moving there in the past...for a couple of years,'72/73, I lived in Jonesboro,GA and would cruise to Macon on the weekends.I still had inlaws in Jonesboro till I got divorced several years ago.
I would have loved to been able to go to Grant's lounge, like you said it was the place to go from what I've heard.
I'm sure some people reading this thread might think we're kind of full of it,but when you live in places like Macon and Nashville, those guys like the Allmans and many others show up unexpected...a musical who's who.
I met Warren Haynes years ago when he lived in the boonies of Dickson Co. TN,and was playing with David Allen Coe...Warren was pretty much an unknown guitar player but amazing, and it is nothing short of remarkable what he has done since I met him.
