Just acquired my first Fender. Its a sweet looking quilted maple top deluxe Stratocaster. I'm posting in hopes of learning a bit more about the "special edition" series. The guitar has a synchronized tremolo. What type of pickups did this model come with? Anything noteworthy regarding this year and model? I've searched google but haven't really come up with anything in detail.

Thanks for reading !

Hi Skeelo,Welcome to the Forum, you picked a great guitar for a first Fender but I can't find any info on it even in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide. However with the QMT it must be an exceptional guitar.

Yes, we'd love to see some pictures! Welcome to the forum!! :)

To post pictures you must first upload them on a free hosting site like photobucket . com and then post them here. I thought that might be your next question.

Here you go. This guitar is not mine, but I love the beautiful quilted maple top over the sleek alder body!

IMO, its owner of the guitar has replaced the original mint guard with a classy tortoiseshell.

Thanks for posting the pics....I haven't had time to post my own these past couple days. The Strat I have looks like the one on the bottom with the darker pick guard. The longer I play it, the more I enjoy the guitar.

This is not a Special Edition, but an American Designer series guitar.

This model was also available in Sapphire Blue with a pearloid pickguard and a maple fingerboard.

According to the Fender sticker on the neck it says "Special Edition". Whether or not that has any great value isn't important to me. My curiosity is merely the details of the model. I appreciate your response and I will post pictures as soon as I have a chance.
