Hey gang, I've picked up a Highway One Strat in Daphne Blue that had been sitting in a shop for a couple of years. Got it set up and it plays like a dream, but the pickguard looks aweful. It's yellowed a bit which isn't that bad of an issue, but upon removing the layer of film that was on the pickguard and cleaning up the adhesive residue there are now white imprints of the Highway One and flag decals on it. It just looks daft. So, should I get another white pickguard or go for something different? Tortoise shell perhaps? White pearloid? Parchment?

I am a fan of white pearloid or white 3 ply, either would be fine. It would be interesting to see tortoise, but not sure if the colors would look alright togther.

Okay, so all of the shops in my area where out of white Strat pickguards. One had a pearloid pickguard, but it was for a '57 Strat and had only 9 holes. I had to oder a white one online, but I did get a tortoishell one just to try out. Gives the guitar a whole different look.

I've always been a tortoiseshell fan, but pearloid might not be bad either in that case. And then there's this one that I've always wanted to see, it would look awesome on daphne blue but it's a little pricey.

I am not liking the pick guard. It looks off some how. I am not sure, but I think it is the parchment white knobs and pick up covers. If you are planning to stay with the tortoise, might I suggest vintage white knobs and pick up covers? I think that is the issue I have.

With that pickguard, all it needs now is some white and black Eddie Van Halen stripes all over it. Just to compliment. 8)

not a fan of the tort shell period. never have been.
just bought a tele with it one there. got it home and straight to the shop for a blk replacement. in this case white or white pearl. it all depends on the base color of the guitar.

Yeah, I'm not digging the tortoise shell against the daphne blue either. It'll be coming off as soon as the white one arrives. I just think the shade of blue is just too pale and would look off with anything but white. I've been trying to picture it with a white pearloid guard as well.

Well, it's back to white then (until the new replacement comes in). I cleaned up the original pickguard as best I could so it doesn't look too bad in the pic. I do agree the Strat does look better this way.
