It was made in 2005-2006 according to a serial number looker upper thing. I found one locally for $250, but I really don't wanna pay that much. The question is, is it worth that? What did it retail for new, and is it a good guitar? The serial # starts out MZ5, and is orange in the middle and fades into red, like a starburst pattern or something, and looks to be in most excellent shape.

Thanks!

Absolutely!! IMO you just can't beat a MIM instrument. I have two of them and they are fantastic in workmanship fit, playability and tone. The good thing too is if you are into modding it is a fantastic platform to start from, if you are like me and keep everything stock...you are in luck there too..:) IMO it is a win situation either way!!

So it's absolutely worth the $250? I'm more into modding things and making them my own, :). I don't have any Fenders (yet!), but I don't wanna get hosed on the first one I buy. Around what did these sell for new?

And I assume MIM means Made in Mexico?

Yes, that is a descent price and MIM does mean Made in mexico. I am a huge fan of these guitars...I have both MIA and MIMs and love all of them! IMO Fender is just a fantastic company and their guitars are all I play! With the exception of my incredible Gretsch G5120.

$250 is a pretty good price. I believed they retailed for about 350-399 then, they are around $500 now.

That's a more than reasonable price such a guitar-well worth $250 and from what you describe a beautiful finish.

Buy it. It'll be the best $250.00 you ever spent. 8)

Don't be fooled by these guys. No it is not worth $250. I'll tell you what, tell me where this guitar is and I'll look it over for you. (eyes shifting back and forth mischieviously) If it is worth the $250 I'll contact you. If it is not worth it, look for the new thread by me. It will be named "NGD for RK".

I'd jump on that deal, the MIM's usually go for between $275 to $310.

I'd buy it for $250.00. I'm from New Zealand & over here you'd pay $800.00 up to $1,200.00 for one in good to mint condition, taking into consideration our currency exchange rate.

MIM 2009 Stratocaster standard, upgraded pups & hardware.

For only $250, you need to snap that guitar up as long as you do a thorough inspection, and find that it plays well!

Yep, I kid you not. For Texas special pups new from a music store cost $350.00 NZD.
If you come here for a vacation & bring Fenders you'll get slamed with duty tax which I have no idea what it will cost. Quite a alot I'd imagine & depending how many axes you'd bring in.

Our import tax used to be 28% & that was in the 80's.

I've bought most of my gear on a NZ site like ebay to date, when I did have money I bought guitars new, they weren't cheap then. But when I was in Australia in 81 a P bass was $2,800.00AUD & it wasn't a vintage.

Then again if you want a true Fender sound one is willing to fork out the cash.
Or dream about owning one.

09 MIM Statocaster Tonerider Citylimits pups, wilkinson hardware
08 MIM J bass standard, not upgraded yet
88 Gibson LP standard, upgraded tuners, schaller locking machines
60b Fender bass amp
Marshall 8040 guitar amp
Marshall KK JCM 800
Marshall 4x12 Quad celestian speakers

Hi Rocktout 62,welcome to the forum.I was just wondering if you dismantled a few guitars and brought them unassembled would the same duty apply as for a whole guitar? If the duties were lower for"parts" there may be a way around it.
