I agree with yelladog. You shouldn't buy any guitar without playing it first. If you like the feel of a Mexican Strat, but not the sound, you can get it and hot rod it. You can get a 2 single coil, one humbucker fully assembled pickguard from Carvin that will bolt right into a Strat. Try to find one that you like both the feel and sound of. If you find one and it's within your budget, you've found your guitar.

Hi Branny I have an Epi G400 Custom also and I love it(my daughter's boyfriend prefers it to his Gibson SG).If you are getting a Strat and plan on doing Hendrix SRV etc. your best bet is A Strat with 3 single coils as the humbucker in the bridge position won't give you that Single coil Quack that's so much part of Jimi's and SRV's sound and you already have an excellent humbucker equipped guitat anyway.I recently bought a Jimmie Vaughn for $900 and to my ears and hands it was better than American made Strats that were over $1000 more.Try different Strats but as I stated before I don't think that the HSS would be the best way to go.
