Hello - Just bought a MIM 1998. Was sold as a 62 re-issue. I think the color would be Candy apple Red. The serial # is MN8318015. I've had no luck tracining the # except that it's MIM 1998-1999. The seller said it is a re-issue because it has staggered poles on the pick-ups & writing on the saddles?

Thx
Duffey

Well what else does it have? I would think a 62 reissue would have vintage style tuners, rosewood fretboard, truss rod adjustment at the heel of the neck.

Does it have a 7.25" radius fretboard and 3-way selector switch?

Hi Duffey.

Okay, I will stick my neck out and say, No it is just a standard MIM strat, the tuners are wrong, and every '62 RI I have ever seen has had a rosewood fretboard, not a maple.

With that said, you paid a very fair price for the guitar you bought.

Thanks for the opinions. I didn't think the seller sounded too sure. I am happy with the guitar & the price but I had pursued it thinking it was a re-issue. You don't think it's a repro do you?
I've sent an email into Fender from another chat site. I'll let you know if I get a responce. I haven't left the seller any feed-back yet. How hard should I be or maybe I should contact him before I do. He has a high rating with a lot of sales. I guess it's buyer beware.
*Hope this helps some one else looking to buy a MIM.

Yeah it's definitely not a reissue. As other said 60s reissues only come with Rosewood. They also don't come in that color. That guitar also has truss rod access at the headstock, a reissue wouldn't. MIM Reissues have the serial on the back of the headstock, that one has the serial on the front like a MIM standard. Guitar also has the wrong tuners.

However with that said you got a pretty good deal on a MIM standard with American Hard shell case. I wouldn't be too hard on the seller though. Other then inaccurately calling it a reissue he pretty much described it correctly. Besides since you couldn't accurately tell it wasn't a reissue by looking at it maybe he made the same mistake.

Thx Yogi for the explaination.
I also spoke with my son, he's living & playing guitar in Nashville, & he looked at the photos in the link & said that he was also sure it wasn't a reissue. So you all have convinced me (the novice) it's not a reissue. I'll still shout back if Fender replies with any usefull info from the serial #.

Thx Again
Duffey

Actual it is a Standard, the specs say so right there. It just has vintage style frets which refers to the smaller fret size. Its an MIM Standard.
