Hey again folks,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about Garnet amps, and any experiences with them.

Before I begin, here's a link to the only story I could find behind them (It's really a good read; do check it out if you have the time):

http://www.garnetamps.com/history.htm

The reason why I'm interested is that I've been shopping around for an amp for a while now, and then today an I find an ad containing this beauty that strikes my heart:

Image

Being a Winnipeg boy this amp would really be something to be proud of! The owners asking price seems a bit steep, though - $800. Regardless, it looks to be an absolute KILLER!

Here's the ad description:

"From Gar's custom shop, this first prototype was the first in his Deputy Series , 2 -6L6's . 85 watts of pure tube power, one of a kind with this white leatherette from the factory, mint condition and sounding ."

I'm feeling I might have to give him a call. What are your thoughts on it? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Garnet amps are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Rebel Deluxe screams. Also have a Gnome.
I saw that ad on Kijiji as well. $800 seems a little high, but if it's a prototype, then who knows. It's been up at the site for awhile, maybe he would accept a lower offer?
Also, "Gar's custom shop" makes me laugh for some reason.

Good luck.

Back in the 70s a buddy of mine sold a lot of Garnets in St. John's,NL and they were used by a lot of gigging musicians-I didn't buy one as I had a Traynor MKIII and Traynor Custom Reverb.Anyway if my memory serves me correctly there was a big orange tag with black lettering on the amps with a warning that could cause hearing damage or loss and of course that was a big selling factor. They were known to be very good sounding and rugged amps and people who owned them said that they were every bit as good as Traynor or Fender although significantly cheaper. If I were you I'd buy that beauty in a heartbeat.Good Luck.BTW it looks like it has reverb and tremolo which IMO is a huge plus but that's a very fair price to pay for a piece of Canadian rock history.

Thank you all! I will definitely be looking in to this!:D

Hey Kyle, just curious - do you have a band at all? If you do I might have to check you guys out sometime. Also that bit on the ad being up for a while is pretty useful information. I'll definitely see if the seller will go any lower if I get to trying it out. Fantastic equipment, by the way

Thanks,

I'm not playing in a band right now. Too much of my time is taken up with teaching. If I play with a band, it's usually filling in for someone. How about you?

Also, I went to Ultimate Guitar Works on Henderson Hwy today, and they have a black tolex Deputy on the floor for $899...

Keep us posted.

Back again.

I'm not currently in a band but I do intend on rounding some people together some day.

Anyhoo, I threw an offer at this fellow and he said he'd call me back. He seemed pretty enthused to have a younger, ambitious type giving him a call. Says he played the amp for bass (but that it could also be used for guitar - but it would be LOUD ), and that he'd since moven to solid state. He claims to be the original owner too which is always a plus.

I can't wait to hear back. Will keep you all informed as to what's happening.
