Cut out a round piece of thin cardboard, slightly smaller than the diameter of the volume knob skirt, with a hole in the center big enough to clear the volume pot shaft and nut. Remove the volume knob, put the cardboard piece over the shaft and down flush with the pick guard, then reinstall the knob, making sure to push the knob down firmly. You might need a couple of thin pieces or one thicker piece. That might provide some "drag" for the volume knob.

I have heard of some players that move the volume pot down to the first tone control spot, and move that tone pot to the volume spot. That way the volume would be protected. You can wire the bottom tone pot to be a master tone and make the first tone pot (the one that was moved) to just be a dummy pot that can't hurt your sound if you bump it. You'll have a dummy knob in spot 1, volume in the middle and master tone on the bottom.

Hope that helps. :)

I know what you mean I tend to like them like this though.

Really how easily it moves depends on how much physical resistance is has internally in the pot on the contacts.

If you wanted to keep the original pot you could always take it to a tech to open it up and make the contacts tighter. A delicate job but doable.

You could replace the pot for a new one.

Another option (less elegant) would be to remove the knob and put some paper under it so it contacts with the pick guard and makes it less easily moved. Also you could lower the pick guard so the knob makes contact with it. That could really make it tight.

I'm sure someone out there knows of a product that gums up the pot a bit but is electrically friendly. I spend more time trying to clean them out to get pots looser not tighter.

Is the issue that the volume knob is loose on the pot shaft, or that the pot shaft loosened from the pickguard? Normally I find the 2nd scenario to be more common - in which case you have to pull the knob off the shaft and use a wrench to tighten it.

I did the cardboard trick and it worked like a charm.
Thanks friends.

You could also practice your fast strums further up the body near the neck.
