Hey everyone,

I am new here, but have been trolling the board for awhile now. I thought I would do a quick intro, and pose a couple questions.

My name is Dan, I have been playing for around 12 years off an on. I am still in the intermediate stage of playing. I recently sold off all my guitars with the exception of my beloved 1996 MIM Strat. This leads me to my questions:

Below is a photo I took off line of someone elses strat, but appears identical to mine. Here is my question:

Can anyone tell me if there is anything special about the MIM 1996 2 tone burst with rosewood fretboard? (1960's reissue? Late 1950's reissue? Etc)

Any help is appreciated!

Not really, looks about the same as any other mid 90s MIM strat. Its not a reissue, just a plain Mexican standard. If its special to you that's what counts anyway. But I wouldn't expect it to be some collector's item or holy grail of strat tone if that's what you mean

The guitar is special to me, yes. I was just wondering since the GC where I bought it really did not have a ton of info. The pick-ups on this are sweet (original I believe), and it plays like butter, much better than my 2002 American Stnd (am sad to say!) Anything I should know about 1996 MIM strats that I am not aware of? I was under the impression that they had nice quality in the mid 1990's? I am not up to speed on the forums and all that, so when I bought this guitar I did not look up a ton of reviews etc. I guess what I am looking for are specs for this model. What type of pick-ups, what is the actual name for the color scheme etc, since I can not find anything detailing what was standard for this years makes. Some sites list the color as 2 tone burst, some say brown burst. You get it. Any info is appreciated. This will give me a better handle on what I have, so if I change something out on it later, at least I don't look like too much of a moron.

Well the quality was ok, but the newer MIM standards are much better IMO. The newer standards have full size blocks, better pots and switch, Bigger frets, tinted necks, are made of alder instead of poplar.

Your guitar is a poplar body with an Alder veneer, brown sunburst, ceramic pickups. Vintage sized frets and I believe 7.25 radius. Other than that I couldn't tell you specific specs.

My nephew has a 96 MIM Strat identical to yours and has used it gigging since then.It was only recently that he retired it and replaced it with a new Olympic White maple neck MIM.He was always asked what kind of pups he had in it as it sounded so full like it had Fat Strat pups on it.There was not a lot of consistancy as far as quality control in 90s MIM Fenders but it seems that you and my nephew have lucked into really good ones.

Wow that is good to hear! I love this guitar, I can say that anyone who plays it, just loves it. Strange because I would think my AM Standard would get the better reception. Who cares!!! ROCK on!
