I was wondering if anyone has removed or altered the configuration of the S1 volume control.
I must say I am not a big fan of this type of control. I find the operation of the push button awkward and the loose rotary movement of the volume control a real problem. I find it's so weak I actually turn the volume down as I am playing. Weird! ! ! I can't figure why as this does not happen with my USA Standard Strat.
I was thinking of using a micro switch instead of the button and changing out the control pot for the volume.
Any recomendations or ideas weould be good thanks.

The S-1 switch on the new Deluxes has been reconfigured for further tonal variety.

Don't expect to have the S-1 on the American Standard HSS. Fender removed the S-1 to make the operation simple. Deluxe HSS models still had the S-1 and feature a blower switch to route the signal from any pickup position to the bridge humbucker, bypassing both volume & tone controls.

I have the S1 on my 04 American Deluxe 50th Anniversary and I've never had any problems. From time to time I'll notice that I've inadvertently lowered the volume, but that can happen with any strat, not just the AD50A.

Thanks for your replies guys.
My Strat is the SSS and it is really all about the switch physically being not suitable for me and my needs.
Strataholic says he has no probems then says he has the same problem as I inadvertantly moving the volume control, so I am not alone. As I say my other Strat has a volume pot that is all together stiffer to move than the Deluxe. Perhaps the problem is with the control on my guitar not rerforming as it should.
If it were not for the button in the switch I could change the control knob for a Tele type along with the others to match, that might solve the problem.
I have just found the schematics for the wiring so this may be an option as my initial thought of using a micro switch to replace the button.
I'm surprised that other users other than Strataholic & myself have not had a problem moving the volume control by mistake or is it as Strataholic says a common fault with Strats

Hello billy8945,

I have two options for you.

One is to move the S-1 switch and wire the pot lugs to replace one of the tone controls and have a standard pot as the volume. Cosmetically you'd have to put up with a tone knob that says its the vol but it would solve your issue. Let me know if your interested and I'll post a wiring diagram for you.

The other is to get hold of a tele style S-1 switch knob to match your other knobs. They are out there

Hope this helps

Andy
