Was wondering if anyone knows what the thicknesses on the original 1959 - 1962 strat neck contours were. the american vintage and custom shop reissues have neck thicknesses like 0.81 at first fret and .91 at first fret which seems too thin to me. I prefer a neck made from a baseball bat sawn in half.

Alternatively, was wondering if there's any commonly available Fender strats with a fat neck (like a NoNeck or Hot Rod 62 back contour) and a 7.25" radius.

thanks in advance.

I've read somewhere abou there was a brief period where some quality control wasn't taken place and some necks weren't finished being sanded down before being finished. This resulted in what is known as the U shaped profile. SRV loved this profile, that's what's on his number 1.

As far as I know the U shaped profile came from the days of the Nocaster, which leads me to believe that its existence is not related to any quality control issues (or any other issues) of the Stratocaster. Of course it could very well be a result of quality control issues on the Nocaster.

But what your post leads me to believe is that the 59-62 strats were supposed to have thin necks and quality control issues led them to have thick necks. So the reissues are correct in making them thin as that is more accurate to the intended design.

Fender, if you're listening... you Gotta make more strats with thick necks!! :D
