I just purchased some from ebay and when it turned up it looked rubbish. I tested some of the black water based paint by painting some on a bit of wood and then checking the resistance. I got a reading of 10Mohm per cm!

Can anyone here recommend some proper silver type paint that they have used inside their guitar for sheilding.

I am actually very very tempted to use copper foil but it looks a nightmare to get into the corners etc.

update: decided against the paint idea and just used this stickly copper foil from ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

works like a charm and didnt need to solder any of the joints (just overlapped the copper and it joined ok).

Mark, I use slug tape from a garden center to do that. Costs £5 a roll, which will do 3 guitars. You can even solder the stuff.

Personally I'd rather have the hum than the change in sound that shielding brings on.

Copper tape is indeed a nightmare especially when you have to tack solder the pieces together. Did the tape that you got come with conductive adhesive?

yeah, I definitely want to just move to conductive paint. The foil probably has better conductivity but it's just not worth the hassle.

The stuff I got from ebay (link in my post above) to do the job didnt need to be soldered. I just covered and cut the copper tape to the correct size for each side (overlapped it slightly) and then when I tested it with a multimeter I got 100% continuity across all surface areas.

What "change in sound" is that ? - you mean no noise ?

Back several years ago a buddy of mine used self-adhesive metallic muffler repair tape to shield a couple of his guitars, it worked really well and is still holding out.

Yup, you can even use aluminum foil if you want. It's just such a hassle to use any type of foil or tape to shield a guitar, the process of applying shielding paint is much more painless.

Some people say that when you shield a guitar you experience a change in sound. Some say that you lose some highs.

There is a great on line posting for a guitar maker of fender style guitars. He uses sheet metal copper in the cavities and solders them together...

i just yesterday shielded my strat with self adhesive copper tape and im not sure if i am happy with the results. i have a humbucker in the neck and bridge with a single coil in the middle and before i could get as close to the amp as i want with distortion and it would only give me feedback in pos. 2,3 and 4 but now if i am close to the amp i get really bad feedback in my bridge position as well. but if i get like six feet away i can be in any position and have little to no hum.

the problem is that it seems as if i have lost some bite as well.

I wish I'd used paint on my project guitar. After a few hours of using sticky copper tape on my doubleneck cavities, my fingertips were cut to shreds!
