I was trying for something that would look like a 1956 strat. It's a 2003 MIM body and electronics, a 1990 MIJ 54 neck and a new 8 hole single ply pickguard.

The nut seems to be cut kind of deep and for thicker strings, so I either need to try thicker stings, or have a new nut cut, which is what I'm leaning towards.

Eventually I'd like to get some different pups in it, maybe try some of the Dimarzio Area line or Lace Holy Grails

A real swell job, Jason!

Have a new Corian nut installed, re-string with some .10s, then let her RIP!

For some vintage sonic vibe you might give the Fat '50s pickups a try.

Rawk on!

Arjay

Cool Blackie vibe!

The Fat 50s is surely the perfect choice for the Clapton stuff of the 1970s-early-to-mid 1980s period. You can also try the CS 54s for an early 1950s Strat sound and the Texas Specials for gritty Texas Roadhouse blues tones.

Personally I would stick a set of N3s on this guitar and add a Clapton mid-boost preamp with a Greasebucket tone circuit for the versatility sake (not sure if the body is already routed to accept the Clapton PCB).

Well, I have some Gold Lace Sensors if I wanted to go for a Clapton copy. :) I think the local guitar shop sells the Clapton Boost.

Back in the day, strings were much thicker. Even the 3rd string was wound. That's why Hendrix was using banjo strings...
