I have a chance to pick up a Fender Sub-Sonic Strat that looks to be in excellent condition. I've never heard of one and never seen one before. Is there anyone out there that knows anything about this guitar???
Thanks in advance,
Lile

What a really cool guitar - I played bass for nearly 40 years before I got into guitars (10 years now) so you can see how bad I'm wanting one. I WILL have a subsonic Strat one day!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a really cool guitar. What's the purpose of a baritone guitar? Just to have a deeper tone????

If you can find a Fender Sub-sonic strat, you should buy it. They are usually in great condition but setup incorrectly as the owner (or even guitar shop) isn't that interested in figuring the instrument out.

Here are some intonation tips:

For B standard tuning use the D'Addario baritone set 013. Thicker strings if you are going lower. If you use the D'Addario strings with the Sub-sonic the third string is wound so the saddle should be set closer to the neck (shorter length) in comparison to the 2nd string saddle. The rest of the saddles you setup the traditional way.

But if you are using the stock strings I recommend trying D standard tuning. The Fender Jaguar Baritone set starts at 011 gauge. You can find them online.

If you wanted to tune to standard, use a 009 set.
