So it only figures after about a week of finishing off my Warmoth neck that its time to put in the tuners...i pre-drilled the holes and even widened them just a tad to make them easier to install...with no effort at all the screw head ripped off two of the last screws into the headstock...damn murphy's law to hell!!!

Unfortunately, more and more people are finding out the hard way that of late, those screws' heads snap off if you even look at them the wrong way. All you can do now is bore them out, fill and smooth the hole, spot refinish as necessary and try again. This time, lube the screws' threads with wax or even soap to ensure they go in easily.

Unfortunately i made sort of an ugly repair as i had to get crafty with the tools that i had...i ended up drilling a 5/16" hole and plugging it with a shaved piece of 3/8" dowl rod...it looks ok i guess...either way it will be covered by the tuners so you wont be able to see it...and im using much better stainless steel screws that i got from Lowes...i mean why even put such crappy screws in the kit? i broke two of them off in my brand new neck!! unreal

Hi Stratdude: couple of years ago I had the exact same issue. On page one of this thread I asked fellow Forum users for suggestions and on page two I went to work. Maybe it'll help:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... sc&start=0

Beyond that, I can only echo what Martian said, above... :(

Cheers - C

PS I didn't use cvilleira's clever suggestion on this occasion, but it is such a neat idea I stored it away and you'll see it being put to a different use later in the year...

webmaster we should have this stickied to warn other people installing vintage tuners on there strats to buy the stainless steel screws from Lowes or Home Depot

the screws are 4 x 1/2 SS (stainless steel #4 x 1/2" long), sheet metal screws, pan head phillips, they come in a quantity of 5

they are slightly bigger diameter which you will have to use a bigger drill bit...but they are MUCH better screws
