I am new to Strats, but I picked up an 85 MIM fat strat really cheap. On closer examination I noticed a problem with the neck. It appears to bow up causing the top E to touch the edge of the fret at about #17. The guitar plays great except the E string wants to roll off the top of the neck.
Is this neck fixable with an adjustment?

Thanks , RC

Sounds like it needs a complete setup.

It could be that someone added an aftermarket bridge and it's too big.

Yes it is. Sight unseen, apparently the neck has shifted in its pocket. This is a common occurrence where it has to be shifted back so that the strings go uniformly across the fretboard. In your particular situation, it involves holding the guitar in playing position, pushing down on the body and pulling up on the neck simultaneously until the strings are at their best angle over the fingerboard as viewed from both E strings and then, tightening the 4 bolts on the neck plate a tad. You can also follow how well the D and G strings line up with the fret dots too for collateral verification. If the neck won't move with you trying to pull up on it, loosen those 4 screws a tad first.

It was as suggested that the neck had moved in it's pocket. I forced it down an tightened the 4 screws. All is well and plays like a dream.
Thanks so much for the tip.
